NEW MATERIAL:An acetaldehyde ethyl 2-(4-methyl-thiazole-5-yl)ethylacetal shown by the formula. USE:A blending ingredient of a milk flavor like spicing agent. Irritating, colorless, and transparent liquid. 10-70Pts.wt. of the spicing agent is blended with 100 pts.wt. of a blend of saturated fatty acids consisting of caproic acid, caprylic acid, capric acid, lauric acid, myristic acid, and palmitic acid, and usable in margarin, tofu milk (bean curd), etc. PROCESS:4-Methyl-5-(beta-hydroxyethyl)thiazole is reacted with ethyl vinyl ether in the presence of an acid, e.g., hydrochloric acid, etc. at 10-100 deg.C, preferably 20- 50 deg.C to give the compound shown by the formula in high yields. |
