PURPOSE:To manufacture simply and rapidly an emulsion contg. no harmful matter by subjecting an oil-in-water type emulsion for a photographic material to flocculation settling treatment; discharging the supernatant after washing; and dissolving the flocks in an alkaline soln. CONSTITUTION:An oil-in-water type emulsion consisting of oil soluble coupler soln. L as the dispersion phase and an aqueous gelatin soln. as the continuous phase is charged into tank 20, and while stirring the emulsion with stirrer 22 an acidic soln. is added from container 23 to adjust the emulsion to a pH value around the isoelectric point. By adding a settling agent from container 24 colloid particles of the emulsion are flocculated to form flocks. The stirring is then stopped to settle the flocks, and supernatent UL is discharged from water drawing pipe 28. Washing water is added to tank 20 and stirred to elute harmful matter in flocks FL into the water. Flocks FL are separated again by settling, and the supernatant is discharged. By adding an alkaline soln. to tank 20 from container 26 flocks FL are dissolved to obtain oil-in-water type emulsion L'. |
