PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat for automobile having a whiplash injury reducing effect by certainly preventing a return backward of a head rest when it has moved forward to any position in association with a backward motion of the breast of a driver/passenger in the event of rear-end collision using a lightweight and low-cost constitution. SOLUTION: The seat for automobile is structured so that a head rest supporting frame 8 pivoted rotatably on a seat back frame 2 whereby the head rest 6 is moved forward with the backward movement of the back of the driver/ passenger at the time of rear-end collision, wherein a ratchet mechanism 14 to prevent the head rest 6 taking any position ahead from making a return motion backward is installed between the top or bottom of the supporting frame 8 and the seat back frame 2, and a certain distance is set off between the rotational center of the supporting frame 8 and the ratchet mechanism 14 so that the ratchet mechanism 14 of lightweight and low-cost construction can exert a good effect.
