<p>Copolymers are prepd. by reacting together at elevated temps. a mixt. of (a) a cpd. contg. cyclopentadiene units (b) olefinically unsatd. aromatic cpds., and (c) and alpha, beta-olefinically unsatd. carboxylic acid cpd. Component (b) is used in an amt. of 5-50 mol % esp. 10-40 mol % on total compsn. and the mol. ratio components (c): (a)+(b) is 1:1 to 1:12. The reaction is pref. effected at 200-300 (esp. 230-270) degrees C opt. in an inert solvent and/or under pressure. Process is simple and gives prods. with a high thermal stability are useful as replacements for modified colophony resins in printing inks, giving fast drying and good gloss; as additives to paints, impregnating agents and textile aids; as low molecular additives in (hot melt) adhesives and in road marking compsns.</p> |
