Removing dust from continuously moving paper before printing - by cylinder or belt rotating through adhesive before contact with paper

The assembly removes dust particles from the surface of a continuously moving (P) length of material (1), such as may be used for subsequent printing. It comprises a frame (7) carrying a driven (16-18) rotating (S) cylinder (8) or endless belt having an adhesive coating in contact with the material. During operation, the adhesive is applied to the clean surface of the cylinder. The speed of the cylinder may be considerably less than that of the material and may be in the same or in opposite direction. The adhesive may be applied to the cylinder by immersion in a trough (9) and conditioned (10, 11) before contact with the material, whilst a scraper (13) removes the dust-saturated adhesive afterwards.
