PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a paste-type negative electrode plate, by employing as a raw material for negative electrode paste a homogeneous powder mixture of fine Cd and Ni powder which is obtained by forming a eutectoid of Cd and Ni at the cathode side by electrolysis. CONSTITUTION:A homogeneous mixture of fine Cd and Ni powder is obtained by using Cd and Ni as an anode and forming a eutectoid of Cd and Ni electrochemically at the cathode side in an acidic electrolyte. Then, this mixture is treated in a wet air atmosphere of high temperature to convert most of the Cd in the mixture into Cd(OH)2 and thereafter mixed with a fluorine resin and water into a slurry. After applying the thus-prepared slurry onto the both surfaces of an electrically conductive substrate by the calender method, the slurry is dried to obtain an electrode. It is desirous that the ratio of Cd(OH)2 to Cd at an application to the electrically conductive substrate is 80-60%:20-40%. |
