<p>The physical and chemical properties of a fibrous cellulosic prod. are modified by (i) impregnating the prod. with an organic base to distribute the base throughout the material, and (ii) treating the resulting material with a halosilane so as to form a complex of the base and the halosilane both within the fibres of the prod. and as a coating on the prod. Method is applicable to treating paper, cotton cloth, wood or fibreboard to impact oil and water repellency, to control the degree of opacity, to render the prod. adhesive, and to enhance dimensional stability.</p> |
