<p>The pipes have an insulating coating and are mechanically sepd. from the sacrificial anode, which is joined to the pipeline by an electric cable. The anode is mounted in a holder so the efficiency of cathodic protection can be monitored and the anode can be replaced. The anode is pref. mounted in a float contg. a drum on which the electric cable is wound, and a second drum on which a rope is wound, the rope being attached to a bracelet fitted round the pipeline. A jig operated by remote control is pref. used to replace a spent anode in the float. Used esp. for very deep pipelines, where the latter is protected from corrosion by a system which can easily be inspected.</p> |
