The workpiece holder, used during machining retains an individual workpiece or several workpieces and is forwarded in sequence through the machining stations. Each workpiece remains attached to the holder throughout the machining and intermediate handling. Pref. the holder has a base plate (4) for positioning relative to the machining station and incorporating holder plates (21) cooperating with electromagnetically-operated retaining elements incorporated in a positioning plate (1) when the base plate (4) is correctl positioned relative to the latter.
