PURPOSE:To control the molten metal level in a mold automatically at high precision, by burying a temperature measuring element in the inner wall of a mold for continuous casting at a height where the molten metal level reaches the critical level of the mold when the output of the element reaches the maximum value. CONSTITUTION:A temperature measuring element 7 is buried in the inner wall of a mold 3 for continuous casting at position Po lower by specified distance from the mold head. When the molten metal level in the mold 3 reaches the first specified level by manual operation, the output of the element 7 corresponding to the level is held in a holding circuit 9 by manipulating a manual commanding circuit 16. Similaly, the output of the element 7 corresponding to the second level is held. At the same time, reference level Lo of the molten metal is computed in a reference level setting device 14, and a selector 15 is changed to the automatic control side. The molten metal level and reference level are compared and processed in a comparator circuit 12, and an opening or closing command 0 for slide valve, or an accelerating or decelerating command for a pinch roll 4 of the size corresponding to the absolute value of the difference of the comparison is sent out from a molten metal amount control device 13, so that the molten metal level may be always maintained at the reference level Lo. |
