Disinfectant concentrate contg alkyl benzalkonium halides - as the active constituent

Disinfecting conc. consists of (a) 99-99.9wt. % inert constituent and (b) 0.1-1.0wt. % of an active constituent of (1) 25-50wt. % of a chelate-forming agent and (2) 50-75wt. % of a mixt. of n-alkyl-benzalkonium halides of formula: (where R is H or 1-2C alkyl; R1 is 1-4C alkyl; R2 and R3 may each be 1-2C alkyl and R4 is 8-18C n-alkyl; X being a halogen). The conc., when suitably diluted (to, pref. 250-1500 p.p.m. B2), is used to combat gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria and fungi (e.g., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Trichophyton interdigitale, type 640, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella chloreraesius, E. Coli etc.), hospitals, clinics, food-prepg. vessels, industrial treatment of plants, preventing algae in swimming pools, skin cleansers etc. The disinfectant is highly effective and has a large spectrum of applications.
