The steering linkage for a heavy vehicle with a low slung driving position has a steering column (18) driving a steering box (12), offset from the driving position and linked to the front wheels by a long linkage (10). The driving position can be low on the road to increase the loading capacity above the driver, e.g for a large capacity touring coach. The steering column is adjustable for rake about the transverse link shaft (13) with universal joints at each end (15, 16). These ensure a consistent steering control even with a small frontal collision pushing in the front of the vehicle.
