Valve gear cover for IC engine - has double wall construction with elastic spacer pieces to reduce noise emission

The cover has inner and outer walls (5, 4) which are stamped out of sheet metal to identical profiles. They are spaced apart by elastic distance pieces (14). Studs (16) welded to the inside of the outer wall project through holes in the distance pieces. The edges of holes in the inner wall spring into grooves in the distance pieces. Nuts on the ends of the studs then clamp the assembly together. The cover is sealed to the cylinder head (3) by a gasket (2) round the edges of the walls. The gasket is common to both walls and has slots into which the edges of the walls spring.
