PURPOSE:To enable the extremely fast detection of the position of the sedimentation level of sludge by using ultrasonic wave signals. CONSTITUTION:The sewage being the liquid to be examined in an aerating tank 1 is fed into a sedimentation pipe 7 by way of a pipe 3 by a pump 2. A flow pipe 8 is for measuring the concentration of suspended materials. A transmitter-receiver 11 is provided together with a transmitting-receiving circuit 12 to the sedimentation pipe 7 and the temperature signal is sent from a temperature detecting end 13 to a signal converter 14. The outputs from the circuit 12 and converter 14 and the output via signal converter 17 from a suspended material concentration detector 16 are put in an arithmetic processing unit 18 and the results are recorded in a recorder 19. In this apparatus, the pulse-form electric signal is applied to the transmitter-receiver 11 which in turn transmits the transmission signal of ultrasonic waves. This signal is received as the signal turning back by reflecting on the sedimentation surface of the sludge which begun to precipitate in the solution to be examined in the sedimentation pipe 7, in the receiver 11, and this enables the rapid measurement of the sludge level. |
