<p>The high resolution ink jet printer has the ink container (13)-with an exit hole (17) shaped about a needle electrode (18). The end of the electrode is slightly proud of the hole and is covered with ink through capillary action. A signal applied between the needle electrode and an electrode behind the writing paper (21) provides a fine charge of ink. The ink spots produced by the electric pulses are smaller than needle points or conventional jets. For matrix writing, the ink hole is replaced by a slot with an array of needles separately controlled. The ink is supplied to the container by a low pressure pump. Several lines of needles and slots can be used for extra high speed writing.</p> |
