There is described an arrangement for providing information to motorists along a road wherein road markings S1, S2 e.g. centre lines, include passive responders which cooperate with a secondary radar arrangement R carried by the vehicle V to provide coded information. The output of the responders may be modified by e.g. the presence of ice on the road.
