<p>PURPOSE:To make the opening/closing timing and lift of an intake or exhaust valve, by providing a cam which is rotated synchronously with the rotation of an engine and by providing a rocker cam which is swung by the rotation of the former cam to lift the valve. CONSTITUTION:The first cam 1 is secured on a cam shaft 2 to apply lifting action to a rocker cam 2 once per one rotation of the cam shaft 2 which is rotated synchronously with the rotation of an engine. The rocker cam 3 is supported on another cam shaft 4 parallel with the former cam shaft. A force is applied to the rocker cam by a spring 8 so that the face 5 of the cam 3 is in contact with a valve 6 and the back 7 of the cam is in contact with the other cam 1. The contact faces of the cam 1 and the rocker cam 3 are tapered faces 1A, 3A which have prescribed inclination angles to the axes of the shafts 2, 4. A hydraulic driver is connected to an end of the cam shaft 4 to move the rocker cam 3 in the axial direction to alter the initial phase of the cam. The timing of the valve is thus made variable.</p> |
