<p>A process for the production of bifunctional phenylene ether oligomers represented by the general formula (1) which are free from amine adducts, which comprises conducting oxidation polymerization of a divalent phenol with a monovalent phenol by the use of a copper catalyst, and a tertiary amine, a secondary amine having a secondary or tertiary alkyl group or an aryl group, or a mixture of both: (1) wherein R1, R2, R3, R7, R8, R9 and R10 are each independently halogeno, alkyl having six or fewer carbon atoms, or phenyl; R4, R 5, R6, R11 and R12 are each independently hydrogen, halogeno, alkyl having six or fewer carbon atoms, or phenyl; and m and n are each an integer of 0 to 25, with the proviso that at least either is not 0.</p> |
