BENZOFURAN DERIVATIVES, PREPARATION THEREOF AND PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITIONS THEREOF

A benzofuran derivative of the formula: (I) wherein R1 is hydrogen atom, a lower alkyl group or phenyl group, R is a lower alkyl group, and the substituted propoxy group is at the 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 position of the benzofuran ring; and its pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt, a process for the preparation of the same and a pharmaceutical composition containing the same. The benzofuran derivative and its pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt possess a superior .beta.-adrenergic blocking activity and local anesthetic activity, and are useful for the prevention and treatment of heart disease, hypertension and hyperthyroidism.
