An apparatus and a method for receiving caption broadcast are provided to control the volume or picture quality even without displaying a banner for key operation on a screen while a caption is continually displayed on the screen. A broadcasting signal separator(120) separates a video signal and a caption signal from a received broadcasting signal. A video signal processor(130) processes the video signal to display the processed signal on a screen. A caption signal processor(140) decodes the caption signal to caption characters. A banner generator(160) generates a banner corresponding to key operation. A video composite unit(170) combines the video signal, the caption characters, and the banner. A controller(150) controls the operation of the banner generator according to a menu setting mode about whether the banner is displayed.
