PURPOSE:To prevent mixing of air into an ink passage by a method wherein an ink feeding means so desinged that the capacity of either one of a nozzle and a pressure chamber and an ink feed passage is variable is utilized, and the means is inserted in and coupled with a cartridge while pushing ink out. CONSTITUTION:In the case of piercing a needle 4 into a cartridge 1 in the direction of arrow 21 for coupling them, a valve 12 is closed to prevent outflow of ink to an ink head 6 as well as inflow of ink from a variable pressure chamber 11, and the needle 4 is contacted to a rubber piece 2. Due to frictional resistance between the needle 4 and the rubber piece 2, an elastic member 16 in the chamber 11 is deformed into a concave shape 17, so that ink in the interior 18 of the chamber 11 fills the needle 4 up to its tip end and excessive ink 25 is discharged. In this condition, the needle 4 is coupled with the cartridge 1, and cartridge replacement is conducted smoothly without leaving any bubbles in the needle 4. |
