PURPOSE:To obtain a picture element record of high resolution, by selecting one from density matrix patterns which hae been set one by one in accordance with the density of each picture element in the matrix by use of a dot matrix in order to represent a half tone, and contrasting it with an original picture matrix. CONSTITUTION:With regard to whether a dot is printed or not, for instance, to a picture element (2, 2) in a matrix 2 of a recording picture against each position (i, j) in the horizontal and vertical directions of a picture element of a matrix, density of the corresponding picture element (2, 2) in the corresponding matrix of an original picture is measured and quantized, in case its value is 5/16, the picture element (2, 2) of a density pattern 5 is referred to, a dot is printed at the related position of the recording picture by finding that a dot exists there, and since there is no dot in the picture element (4, 1), a dot is not printed. Density of a picture element 12 of an original picture 12 is quantized by a photoelectric conversion element 13 and a signal processing circuit 15, and a recording head 9 is driven by selecting one pattern from a pattern table 17 by a pattern selector 19 and inputting it to a recording head driving circuit 21. |
