The installation comprises two high-energy electromagnetic radiation sources emitting, respectively, a first beam (26) which is directed horizontally into the receptacle (10) so as to pass through it above the level of the liquid, and a second beam (36) which is directed obliquely into the receptacle (10), in the same vertical plane as the first beam (26), so as to pass through the liquid between the bottom of the receptacle (10) and the free surface of the liquid, an electromagnetic detector (42) located in the aforementioned vertical plane so as to receive the two beams (26, 36) after they have passed through the receptacle (10), and an electronic unit (44) capable of processing the data signal provided by the detector (42). The installation is used in particular in a liquefied-gas bottle packing line. <IMAGE>
