The complete regeneration of a worn tyre, including the sides, by using premoulded rings is virtually impossible, especially for large tyres, since the diameter of the tyre varies considerably from its largest section towards the sides. In order to solve the problem a premoulded composite ring is used which comprises at least two premoulded half-rings (1) and (1'), each having an extended outer edge (4) so that the side (5) of the tyre (6) to be reconstructed is covered. For tyres having a very wide tread the use of a further ring (7) with a rectangular section is envisaged, this second ring being inserted between the two half-rings (1) and (1'). <IMAGE>
