PURPOSE:To join cation exchange membranes at a strength enough to withstand industrial use, by heat-bonding two cation exchange membranes having substituted or nonsubstituted carboxylic acid radical at least on one side by way of fluorinated polymer film. CONSTITUTION:When heat-bonding a cation exchange membrane X and a cation exchange membrane Y (X may be same as Y; Y should have sulfonic acid radical or sulfonamide radical, being treated with tertiary amine or quartenary ammonium salt radical) possessing -COOA (A; H, R, NR3H, NR4, R; alkyl radical having C number of 1-20) at least on one side, a film of fluorinated polymer made of microporous film having sulfonic acid radical with hydrophilic treatment by corona discharge or the like which is then treated with tertiary amine or quarternary ammonium salt radical is placed between the membranes so as to join the cation exchange membranes at a strength high enough to withstand industrial use.
