An automatic gearchange for road vehicles has a manual overide. It has separate servos to engage each gear ratio either from standstill or when moving. A single servo is used to disengage the gears and operate the vehicle clutch. the system has simple layout and can be fitted to manual gearchanges. A failsafe interlock inhibits the reverse gear servo when travelling forwards. aThe manual overide operates via a set of control springs and can be applied at any time.
