The proposed circuits operate on the established pulse width modulation principle. The purpose of the circuit modifications is to assist in eliminating errors due to amplifier offsets, internal circuit impedances, and common mode interference. The stabiliser is divided into two units connected in parallel to the uncontrolled d.c. mains supply. Both act as pulse width modulators, one gives a coarse stabilisation and the other a fine, trimming stabilisation. The output of both units is connected in series. The units are connected such that the feedback for the coarse regulator is its own output voltage, whilst the feedback for the fine regulator is the sum of coarse and fine regulator voltages, that is the total regulator output. The fine regulator acts to correct for faults, and to give the necessary resolution. Stabilisation to one part in 107 is claimed.
