The arrangement is intended for inserting a shaft (51) end (10) into the central bore of a cable drum or the like using a mechanism as in 2749980. The shaft end, whose extremity is conical (52), has a convex spherical contour (54) extending from the conical portion (52) to the cylindrical portion (51) of the shaft. The transition from the contour (54) to that portion (51) is formed by a shallow peripheral constriction (55). This arrangement permits insertion of the shaft end in a misaligned drum bore without damaging the edge of the bore.
