The image signals of a TV camera located in a motor vehicle can be stored e.g. on magnetic tape. Storage of the T.V. signals may be initiated by sensors which detect sharp braking or impacts on the vehicle. A time compression device is connected to the camera for image signal storage in preset time intervals, in order to obtain a monitored interval as long as possible while economising on use of tape. A magnetic recorder (13) with a floating magnetic head (14) is used, whose recorded data can be continuously replaced by a series of other images after a completed recording period. It operates to record the events immediately following activation of the sensor. A selector (18-20) controls the magnetic recorder to provide a greater signal density shortly before the interference. Pref. the storage device is of the bucket brigade type.
