NEW MATERIAL:Phenol derivative of formula I (n is 4-16; m is 1-2). EXAMPLE:2-[2-Methyl-2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)ethyl]-4-nonylphenol. USE:Raw material of phenolic resin, etc. having large void volume in the network structure compared with conventional phenolic resins and having an elasticity ascribed to intramolecular plasticization effect of alkyl group. Flexibility and processability of resins can be improved. PROCESS: For example, a compound of formula I is obtained by reacting phenol with an allylalkylphenol of formula II or a diallylalkylphenol of formual III at 50- 200 deg.C for 1-10hr in the presence of an acid catalyst such as AlCl3. The molar ratio of phenol and the compound of formual II or formual III is 1:1-0.01. |
