The plastics expanding screw fixing plug (1) is axially slotted (2) to form two expandable halves (3, 4). Its cylindrical periphery (14) has a recessed (16) profile (15) and at least one, pref. two, projections (8) which form lips (10) extending in the direction of screw rotation to prevent rotation of the plug when tightening a screw. A recess below each lip receives the lip before the plug is fitted. The profile (15) may have further areas (17) which assist the lips (10) in preventing rotation. The lips have a cowl form and have their upper and lower ends at least partly closed by thin web areas (11).
