<p>A low cost drive for the line feed of a carriage on a typewriter is provided by a reversible motor. The machine has a carriage (3) on which is mounted either a 'golf ball' type head or daisywheel (5), that is driven by a stepping motor (8). The carriage slides on guide bars (9, 11) and motion is transmitted by bands (31) wound around guide wheels (33, 35, 37). A ratchet unit based upon a rack (17) with interlocking pawl (13) defines the line feed increment. Movement is transmitted to the band by a gear, with coupled take up spiral spring, that is driven through an intermediate gear in mesh with a motor gear.</p> |
