<p>NEW MATERIAL:A quinoline derivative of formula (R is H or lower alkyl). EXAMPLE:2-[4-(6-fluoro-2-quinolyloxy)phenoxy]propionic acid methyl ester. USE:Heribicide effective to true-grass weeds by soil-treatment or stalk and leaf treatment. Little phytotoxicity to cotton, soybean, raddish, cabbage, etc. PROCESS:The compound I is prepared by (1) reacting beta-ethoxyacrylic chloride with 4-fluoroaniline in a solvent, (2) treating the product with conc. sulfuric acid, (3) reacting with phosphorus oxychloride, (4) reacting the product with hydroquinone monobenzyl ether in the presence of K2CO3, (5) hydrogenating with H2 gas in the presence of Pd/C catalyst, (6) reacting the product with an alpha-halogenopropionic acid lower alkyl ester and K2CO3, and (7) hydrolyzing with NaOH in a methanol/ water mixture.</p> |
