Volatile liq. quantity measurement method - employing probe on tape measure lowered via valve from sealed enclosure

A measuring instrument allows inflammable and voltatile liquids to be checked for quantity and quality. A thermometer is included to allow the sample temperature to be measured. The whole assembly is sealed to prevent leakage of dangerous gases from the liquid. A quarter turn valve (2) on a reservoir is opened to allow a probe (6) to be lowered into the liquid. The probe is hooked (7) to a tape measure (5) which runs over a pulley (14) from a drum with an anti-return pawl (17) acting against a ratchet wheel (18). The probe carries a sampling container (11) and a thermometer (8). When the probe is raised into a guide (13) a form assembly (12) allows the thermometer casing (10) to be lifted. This allows the temperature to be read through a window (3) in the equipment door.
