Crash bar for rear of lorry - has sprung damper and swing up facility to prevent damage on ramps

A safety mounting for a rear crash bar for a lorry has the bar (6) pivoted from the lorry on a control arm (7) each side and with a hydraulic damper (13) pivoted between a second chassis pivot (8) and a sliding pivot (9) on the arm. The three pivots form a triangle and allow the crash bar to be pushed inwards while compressing the damper or to swing rearwards and upwards when striking a ramp during reversing. The sprung damper and the slot mouting pivot are arranged so that the damper moves through a dead point between the dropped and raised positions. The crash bar provides maximum protection while allowing the vehicle to negotiate steep ramps.
