For installation in footing and sleeper walls (6) in building construction, the laminar barrier course (1) prevents termites attacking the superstructure and prevents rising damp. It comprises a contiguous strip of a symmetrical, inverted trapezoidal channel section (2,3). The strip may be of metal and ideally of stainless steel, being installed with the wings (3) projecting on each side of a wall to prevent termites climbing the wall faces. In the case of suspended ground floors (11) the strip may be placed between 50 and 100mm above ground level (8), an alternative winged 'L' section being used for solid floors. In the latter case the respective wings (3) are sited above ground level on either side with the leg lining the internal face. Lap joints are provided between lengths and the strip may be sandwiched in mortar.
|
