The mine ventilating and cooling system uses a refrigeration unit. An engine drives a compressor in the refrigeration circuite, which includes an evaporator through which water is passed, connected to water supply and return lines. The circuit also includes a condenser with a cooler connected to its coil. This cooler is incorporated in teh cooling circuit for the engine and is followed by a heat exchanger which receives heat from the exhaust pipe of the engine. The heat exchanger is connected to a further heat exchanger used for a hot water supply.
