The solar heating system using roof tiles (10), uses tiles which can be made of clay material, each carrying a metal layer (11) in contact with a pipe (12) for circulating a heat collector fluid. The tiles overlap, and the pipe is stepped accordingly. Seen from above, the pipe can also be zig-zag shaped. The underside of the tile can incorporate grooves to allow air to circulate underneath and the grooves can be square, round or triangular in section. Alternatively the tiles may be ribbed underneath. They may also incorporate square section grooves to fit over the roof surface. The material from which the tiles are made may include additions to improve heat conductivity.
