The water heater has a channel block (1) defining parallel, straight water channels, coupled in series, which incorporate heating coils (6) directly contacted by the water. The heating coils (6) are connected at one end to the mains phase lines and connected in star configuration at their opposite ends. The water channels (5) containing the heating coils (6) are defined by U-shaped longitudinal slots, spaced around the peripheral surface of a cylindrical insert (4) fitting into a corresponding cylindrical bore in the channel block (1).
