A method for the separation of a particulate mass into a light fraction and a heavy fraction includes the steps of creating laminar flow conditions in the surface zone of a suitable liquid, introducing the mass into the surface zone, allowing the heavy fraction to sink and collecting it and collecting the light fraction moving in the surface zone. The bulk of the liquid remains static and so one achieves a continuous separation under substantially static bath conditions. |
