<p>PURPOSE:A heating element, useable for body warmers, capable of starting heat generation, in a short time, and controlling large heating duration and calorific value, which is made to generate heat by mixing iron powder with an acid aqueous solution of specific pH as an oxidation accelerator in the presence of oxygen. CONSTITUTION:Iron powder (I) is mixed with an acid aqueous solution of pH <=4 containing an iron salt and a small amount of aluminum chloride in a weight ratio of I to the solution of 1:0.05-1.0, preferably 1:0.05-0.4, in the presence of oxygen to initiate the oxidation reaction with oxygen. Oxalic, citric, or malic acid may be preferably used as an acid substance to be added to the solution. The solution impregnated into a water absorbing humectant, e.g. charcoal or bentonite, uniforms the temperature and prolongs the duration. USE:Hot packs, heating of processed food, insecticides, heating and fumigation of perfumes, heat retention of shoes, portable fuel, heat retaining mats, etc.</p> |
