A shutter release for an electronic exposure control camera has a control cam on the shutter opening element directly linked to a switch which starts the exposure time count. The cam operates on a control arm sprung by a coil spring. The direct coupling of the arm (4) to the switch (7) provides a switch action precisely tuned to the start of the shutter open action. No complex mechanical or electric interlocks are used and no inertia arises in the system. The cam edge (3) of the shutter element (2) is braced directly on the lever (4) whose other end is held against the fixed contact (7).
