The stabilised front wheel damper is linked to the front wheel brakes to harden the damper reaction during braking and to prevent the front of the car from dipping. The brake pressure operates a flow restriction (2) in a bypass to the damping piston (3). The flow restriction has a valve element (2) normally held in the open position. Brake pressure forces a piston against a spring and progressively shuts off the shunt line (4) between the top and bottom of the damper. An alternative layout has bulkhead in one of the damper chambers, containing the flow restriction valve. During braking an increasingly smaller damper volume is available with a resulting harder reaction.
|
