The device consists of a frame (1), whose surface (2) has a matrix of holes (3), in which are a number of optical fibre rods (4) which protrude beyond the rear side of the frame. These rods are preferably double the width of the frame in length so that they extend to the rear (5) of the frame. When a three dimensional object (6) is pressed against this plane surface, the rods will take up the shape of this object giving a negative impression at the rear and a positive impression at the front, the accuracy and detail contained in this impression being dependent upon the number of rods used in the structure, per unit area. Usually about 1000 rods are used per 1 sq. cm.
|
