<p>The proximity detector (9) is fitted on a carrier (24) inside the distributor housing (11). The cam on the distributor rotor is fitted with a cylindrical magnetic equivalent (12) of the cam lobes. This attachment is definitely registered with respect to the rotor in order to give the correct timing. As the rotor spins a square wave output is generated by the proximity detector (9) which is then used to control the ignition instant. The proximity detector carrier can be linked (23) to a pneumatic advance and retard bellows. By changing the angle of the detector face relative to the rotor radial axis, the ignition point can be moved. The proposed proximity detector and modified rotor end can be fitted as a replacement for the contact breaker assembly on some existing distributors.</p> |
