PURPOSE:To catalytic reaction of ketone, alcohol, carbon monoxide and hydrogen increases the carbon number of the ketone and gives various kinds of ketones having industrially higher value than that of the starting ketone. CONSTITUTION:The catalytic reaction between ketone, alcohol, carbon monoxide and hydrogen is conducted in the presence of a catalyst, e.g., a combination of a transition metal and hologen or further a phosphine, at a temperature of 150- 350 deg.C and a pressure of over 100kg/cm<2> to produce ketones with more carbon atoms than that of the starting ketone. For example, the combination of acetone with methanol gives methyl propyl ketone and with ethanol, methyl butyl ketone. Further, dipropyl-, dibutyl ketones also are produced depending upon the reaction conditions. |
