<p>PURPOSE:To gain an easy connection to an electric apparatus as well as to reduce the installation space, by making an integral electronic component by combination of a protective element against excess current and a protective element against a surge voltage. CONSTITUTION:A positive temperature coefficient thermistor element 1 and a varistor element 3 are combined in layers with an insulating spacer 3 put between the two. The first external electrode 6 is connected to the input side, the second external electrode 7 is connected to an electric apparatus to be protected as a load and the third external electrode 8 is grounded, meaning that the positive temperature coefficient thermistor element 1 is connected in series and the varistor element 2 is connected in parallel to the load. In such a connection, the positive temperature coefficient thermistor element 1 functions to protect an excess current and the varistor element 2 functions to protect a surge voltage. Since the protection of both an excess current and a surge voltage can be done by an integral electronic component, an easy connection is available and only a small space is needed for installation.</p> |
