PURPOSE:To automatically and economically manufacture a pin-shaped battery by winding a separator around a metal core, which is wound with a metal electrode, by means of a winding-in jig and a winding roller which is provided with a heating portion and fusing the separator by the heating portion of the roller to produce a negative electrode assembly. CONSTITUTION:A metal core rod 1 is wound with a resilient metallic electrode 2 of lithium or the like. A jig 18 defines a groove 20 having a semicircular cross section adapted to roll the metallic core rod in and holds a separator 3 by a vacuum suction means 21. A roller 19 rotates in the direction indicated by the arrow Y. Here, the roller has a rubber lining 26 for slipping prevention and a heating portion 26 with a heater 25 buried in a metal part 24. First, the rod 1 is placed between the jig 18 and the roller 19. Then, the electrode 2 is rotated so as to cause the electrode to contact with the separator 3 and to be pushed into the groove 20. The vacuum suction means is at the same time deactivated. The winding roller 19 is rotated to wind the separator from its floating edge 3' around the electrode 2 and the trailing end of the separator is fused by the heating portion 26. The negative electrode assembly produced with the above method is placed within a battery case, whose inner wall is formed into a positive electrode 5, manufacture a battery. |
