An artificial organ for the treatment of blood or other fluid flow from the human body comprises a vessel 1 filled with a solution 8, which is harmless to the human body. A fluid pressure-equalising tube 2 contains a quantity of gas, which is capable quantitatively of absorbing the expansion of the solution 8 that occurs during heat sterilisation of the artificial organ. The tube 2 is connected to at least one fluid passage 3, 4, 5, 6, which is connected to the inside of the artificial organ. The organ is sterilised by vacuum packing the organ and heat sterilising it in a position such that the fluid pressure equalising tube 2 containing a gas is uppermost on the artificial organ. As a result the treatments following heat sterilisation are facilitated or can even be omitted altogether. <IMAGE>
