PURPOSE:To reduce the lowering of picture image contrast by providing a light absorptive coated body at the peripheral area except the picture image display area on the face panel of a picture tube. CONSTITUTION:The frame-shaped light absorptive coated body 12 is provided at the peripheral area except the picture image display area 11 on the face panel 2 of the picture tube 1. Even if unnecessary reflected light beams are incident on the peripheral area on the face panel 2 of the picture tube at operation, these are absorbed by the light absorptive coated body 12. As a result, the reflected light beams are prevented from being reflected on the surface of the face panel and the picture image contrast from being lowered due to their advancement into the screen through a compensating lens.
